7th Newsletter of Les Amis de Gambie.

June/July 2010
Dear Sponsors,
Some of our members of Les Amis de Gambie have just come back from the Gambia.
Many things had to be done just before the rainy season (mid-June to mid-October). The second phase of our most recent project, “Water for everybody”, has been completed successfully. The hand-pump has been installed and from now on 700 people will benefit from clean drinking water. The day that the villagers could start using the borehole was a very happy day indeed for the whole community of Sinchu Alhajie. It would no longer be necessary for the women to walk long distances to get water. Nor will it be necessary anymore to pay for the water, as it is now easily accessible nearby, and is clean and healthy, which will reduce the incidence of disease in the village.
The orphanage, the main project of Les Amis de Gambie, has now been open for 17 months and we currently have 14 children living with us. Eight of our children are already sponsored, whilst six are still awaiting a sponsor. We would greatly appreciate your help in sponsoring one of them, so that these children will be sure of a good future and education!
The best way to go about it is to make a monthly standing order. The costs of per month per child is EUR 100, including the cost of the “mothers”, gardener, security, cooks, cleaning staff and manager. If some people group together, it will make a big difference for the children! As a sponsor, you will be informed every two months about how “your” child is doing, with pictures, letters and drawings from him or her.
Our account number is: IBAN LU42 0030 6563 9934 0000 (BGL-BNP Paribas BGLLLULL) with mentioning: sponsoring + eventually the name of the child you want to sponsor.
A big thank you in advance from Hawa en Adama (twins), little Awa, Assi Bobo, Nicolas and Sainabou for helping them.
Some very good news is that Les Amis de Gambie has found their first corporate sponsor in Gambia. Comium Gambia, the leading telecommunications service provider in the Gambia, came to our Orphanage to donate oil, rice, sugar, soap, pampers, baby milk, toys, clothes and a bicycle. In addition, Comium Gambia provided a bouncy castle, face painting and games. It was a lovely day and Les Amis de Gambie looks forward to future cooperation with Comium Gambia.
In more good news, Les Amis de Gambie, founded eight years ago, has reached an agreement with the Luxembourg Government. From now on, donations to Les Amis de Gambie are tax deductable. Sponsors will receive a letter from Les Amis de Gambie at the end of the year, which they can use for their tax return. Yet another reason for supporting Les Amis de Gambie!
Les Amis de Gambie warmly thanks you for your generosity.
